It’s not only what you do that matters but also how you do it. Environmental principles and practices are fundamental to the way we work and run our business. Whatever we do it is important that we work in an efficient, sustainable way and that we offer as far as possible, environmentally responsible print solutions. We are aware that many of our clients have strong environmental principles so it is important that the way we work and run our company is aligned to those principles as well.
The company has held certification (FSC-STD-40-004 V2-1, FSC-STD—50-001 v1-2) by the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC) since 2007. FSC refers to a Chain of Custody (CoC) over paper stocks bought, processed and sold by Taylor Brothers. It is a way of ensuring that the materials used are sourced responsibly from managed sources. We work closely with the Soil Association certification, to ensure the correct operation of the system and that an item identified as FSC can be traced right back, through our code, to the wood or recycled pulp used to make the paper. If any of our customers require FSC certifications to appear on their print we can by arrangement make the necessary additions to their artwork
Our next goal was to put in place a full Environmental Management System (EMS) and we worked hard to put a fully documented EMS in place. As a result of this we gained our ISO14001 accreditation in 2009. The EMS promotes a philosophy of continual improvement with our main objectives being to;
- Reduce waste outputs such as paper, packaging and power
- Reduce usage of electricity, gas, water, make ready paper, packaging, transport fuel, VOCs - and in doing so to reduce our emissions.
- Establish a consultation forum relating to environmental issue, so we can increase awareness and understanding throughout the business of our aims, issues and achievements.
- Increase Segregation and Recovery (recycling), and where possible, re-use of materials so as to reduce the quantity of waste sent to landfill.
We have a full set of procedures and an Environmental Policy Manual, which includes an Environmental Policy that is available upon request.
Reducing a company's 'Carbon Footprint' is a real issue of our times and is another way in which the paper and print industries are creating more sustainable forms of communication. We can offer, on certain paper and board stocks, carbon offsetting on the emissions from the manufacture and distribution of the stock. Please feel free to contact us for more information on Carbon Balanced/Offset papers.
Cycle to Work Scheme
Another example of our commitment to reducing our environmental impact is our staff Cycle to Work Scheme. We set this scheme up through Cyclescheme Ltd. www.cyclescheme.co.uk three years ago have had a 30% take up rate across the company. Bristol has established itself as very much a cycling city and we have worked on a number of projects supplying print for bike events and in particular the alternative cycling magazine Boneshaker, featured in our Case studies section which we are very proud to print
